Frating church.

Arny Webb has transcribed Frating baptisms 1708-1812, marriages 1813-1837, and burials 1813-1900. 1560-early 1700s and marriages 1754-1812 transcribed by Helen Barrell. They can also be searched for at FreeREG. Transcribed from parish registers at ERO.

Notes

  • Gaps in the register – it looks as if a page has been torn out, losing baptisms 1638-1648. No baptisms 1695-1707. No burials 1641-1647, or 1656-1659.
  • Baptisms run from 1560 then stop 1671, with one for 1693 and two for 1694. Then several pages later, baptisms 1671 to 1691 appear. None for 1692 in the register.
  • Two apprenticeships are recorded in the earliest register (D/P 349/1/1). On image 33, 26 March 1614, Elizabeth Waters bound herself to serve Thomas Ruffle of Frinton as a maidservant and apprentice for three years – consent given by Daniell Heckford and Agnes Heckford (late wife of Mathew Waters) – presumably Elizabeth’s mother and stepfather. On image 34 , 7 Jan 1615/6, Joane Mazon bound herself to Antony Collins of Thorrington for three years, with the consent of Thomas Woodd and Isaack Heckford, overseers of the poor of Frating. Both memos give details of term of service, cost of apprenticeship, terms eg clothing, food and board.
  • Recorded among the marriages: 27th April 1683, Thomas Beriffe, gentleman, gave a cushion to the church.
