- Little Oakley St. Mary...
Transcribed by Arny Webb (except baptisms and burials 1726-1810 and marriages 1726-1753 by Helen Barrell). They can be searched for at FreeREG. The original registers can be viewed on ERO’s Essex Ancestors. The church is now a private house. The photo above shows The Old Rectory in the village.

Notes
- No baptisms 1563-4, 1611-3, 1623, 1643, 1646, 1666, 1669, 1674, 1676-9, 1681-1725, 1770.
- No burials 1559-64, 1612-3, 1669, 1672-6.
- There is, unfortunately, a gap of about 45 years in the registers between the late 1600s and early 1700s.
- Most of the baptisms for 1731 and 1734 might be missing.
- In 1592, John, the son of William Hickman, was “slaine with a cart.”
- On 7 September 1665, Abraham, the 11-year-old son of Abraham Hammond “depted this life by a shot from a musket.”
- 1670: “Phebe Barns the daughter of John Barns bound out an apprentice to John Bridge of Little Okeley thorough starving, ill lodging, want of sufficient dyet, was found dead in an Hedge rowe in Much Okeley.” Then several lines follow which have been crossed out, presumably about the same incident. Phoebe was baptised in 1659, so was about 11 at her death. Her mother had died in 1664 and her father in 1667.
- The first page of burials covering 1813-1815 is missing from the scans online at ERO’s Essex Ancestors. They will be added once they become available.
