The Lott family is famous – at least, the home of one of them is. There can’t be many people in Britain who haven’t seen John Constable’s The Hay Wain, showing a carter crossing a ford. On the left, you can see a house, and it was the home of Willy Lott, a member of a family who lived in and around East Bergholt for generations. Constable painted Willy’s home several times.

Brian Lott – a cousin of Willy’s – has been researching his family for many years, and has written up his research in three parts. He’s generously decided to share his research for free. It focuses on the Lotts, but of course no family is an island and he includes other Suffolk families in his research: such as Durrant, Girling, English, Cooper, Green, Ansell, Partridge, Giblin, Chickall, Pratt and Rayner.

As the files are large, and I want to make sure Brian’s research is protected, please email me: [email protected] to request the download link.
