Notes

  • See Chelsworth Village for transcriptions of parish registers, wills, censuses, etc.
  • No baptisms, burials, or marriages recorded at all for 1607 or 1608. It seems to be that they were missed out of the register, as the register is consistent with records every year otherwise.
  • Commonwealth period: the register is fairly consistent between the 1640s and 1660s, but the 1650s look a little slim. It may be that some people weren’t attending church to baptise their children, or that they were missed out, but it doesn’t look like many were missed, if at all.
  • Mid-1730s: following the burial of the rector, Rev. Thomas Brundish in early 1733, the years for burials and some baptisms are confusing between 1733 and 1737. I’ve stated in the notes where I’m not sure what year it should be. It’ll only vary by one year, so hopefully it’s not too bad!
