Transcriber’s notes: Mr John Pattrick was buried in Great Waldingfield on 23 Jan 1708/9. His widow, Mary, is presumably Mary Pattrick, widow, who was buried in the same parish on 20 June 1724.

A John Partridge appears in the 1675 Hearth Tax for Suffolk, living in Great Waldingfield, with four hearths.

Suffolk Archives hold the marriage licence for John’s daughter Mary, dated 22 July 1690. Richard Rayment was a single man of Chilton, and Mary Patrick was a 22-year–old single woman of Great Waldingfield. They were to marry at Long Melford, or Great or Little Cornard. This means Mary was born in about 1668, and there is baptism for Mary daughter of John Partridge at Great Waldingfield on 26 April 1668. Norfolk Record Office hold a marriage licence, dated 21 Dec 1696, for Elizabeth Patrick of Great Waldingfield, single woman, to marry George Abbott, yeoman, of Boxford, Suffolk. The bondsman was John Patrick of Little Waldingfield (who signed John Pattrick), and they were to marry at “Mildin” – presumably Milden in Suffolk. It appears that Bridget married Samuel Brasier in Great Waldingfield on 29 Dec 1698.

As Mary’s marriage licence gives her age, we can possibly identify baptisms of other children of John in Great Waldingfield: John on 10 Dec 1665, son of John Patrick; Elizabeth daughter of John Patrick on 14 Oct 1672; Margaret daughter of John and Mary Pattrick on 1 Oct 1678; Richard son of John and Mary Pattrick on 18 May 1681; and Susan daughter of John and Mary Patrick on 9 May 1682. There are other Patrick/Pattrick/Partridge/Patridge etc families in Great Waldingfield at the time – and also in Little Waldingfield. They are likely all related, but it requires carefully teasing out. Fortunately, there are several wills and marriage licences, which should help.
