Nunn extracts marriage licences – Archdeaconry of Sudbury

couple-woodcut

Nunn extracts from Allegations for Marriage Licences in the Archdeaconry of Sudbury, in the county of Suffolk. Edited by W. Bruce Bannerman & G. G. Bruce Bannerman. London: 1918. The Harleian Society. 1684-1839

In 1918, the Harleian Society published transcriptions from the books of allegations for marriage licences in the Archdeaconry of Sudbury. This genealogically valuable work has been scanned and made freely available online at archive.org and Open Library and is well worth consulting for anyone with family in the west Suffolk area (please find links to the scans at archive.org below). Naturally, there are appearances by people from other parts of Suffolk, as well as the surrounding counties of Norfolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire.

I have made extracts from the scans of all Nunn/Nun surnames, locating them in the volumes by using the surname indexes at the back of volume 70 (covering vols 69 & 70), and volume 72 (covering vols 71 & 72). If you find an entry for your family in my transcriptions, it’s worth double-checking with the scans on archive.org (I try my best to be accurate but errors will no doubt encroach).

You will find below a transcription of all Nunn/Nun people found in each of the four volumes, and then indexes by bride name, groom name “other people” (usually bondsmen, parents and guardians), and location. The location is based on the abode of that person given in the allegation, rather than the place of marriage.
